A great and typically Maltese post on the Times of Malta website today.
This chap is arguing against breathalysing drivers bevause it could cause traffic congestion...
And better still he makes a case for not charging people when they are drunk because the Police may take advantage of their inebriation to con them... Excellent
I cannot totally agree about the checking of blood in the alcohol of drivers, especially in Summer. I hope I'm not being misunderstood since I'm not talking about foreign students but am referring to the numerous wedding receptions that take place during Summer where numerous guests drink much more than the limit. I don't drink much today but can detect a drunk from experience... You know the symptoms...staggering walk, loud, unintelligible talk interspersed with obscenities...but I digress.Just imagine 'happy' people driving back from wedding receptions being stopped in the middle of the road for breathalysing; it would create quite a huge congestion & I think this is unfair. Keeping in mind what the finance minister said on Budget Day vis-a-vis road congestion, it would go against his wishes as he is against road congestion & in fact 'congesting' drivers, especially the ones with a long body (I mean the car, of course, not the people) will be fined. Also, I do not agree that the drivers are tested while they are in a drunken stupor, otherwise how will they know if they've been conned or not. Capisc?!
"Yeah, do one copper, there's no way I'm coming down to the station with you, I'm so pissed I don't know if I'm really pissed or you're just trying to arrest me totake advantage of my clearly pissed state"... eh?
