A constant topic of conversation amongst ex-pats is the price of new and second hand cars in Malta.
They are extortionate. Not just expensive, an absolute rip-off.
Ironically today's Times of Malta carries the headline "Flood of second-hand cars slashes resale values" (http://www.timesofmalta.com/articles/view/20090514/local/flood-of-second-hand-cars-slashing-resale-values)
It goes on to claim (on behalf of the new car dealers on the island) that imports are ruining the resale value of new cars.
In the same paper's Classifieds section today there is the following advert:
NISSAN SUNNY 1991 diesel, in very good condition, license and insurance already paid this week. Price €3,028 (Lm1,300). Phone 9945 6051.
A what? Yes. you read that right - a 1991 Nissan Sunny - for a mere €3000!
Outrageous! He'll sell it as well.
So, if you're coming to Malta keep an eye out online for loopholes - or else be prepared to catch the bus.
On second thoughts better see my earlier posts about bus Drivers before making a hasty decision...
