Almost Christmas, my first one in Malta and I must be honest, I expected a bit more.
OK so I didn't need a coat to walk to work today, which is nice. But, even with the absence of frosty mornings there's something else missing.
A few of the houses, especially the older Houses of Character as they call them here, have Christmas decorations, but in Sliema, Gzira and St Julians at least there are only half-hearted efforts. Bizarre in streets whose doors invariably have mini-shrines to the Virgin Mary on them.
The council make an effort, in the shopping streets they even have speakers on the lampposts piping christmas tunes to the passers-by. But still, in a country which is about 98% catholic (take out the Brits and the Scandinavian Protestant invaders from the gaming industry and it'd be about 99.9%) there's very little Christmas spirit on show.
I've been in Spain near Christmas, in Italy and even in Germany and they are all Mad For It.
Perhaps next week will be different...
Here's ho ho hoping

you make us gaming immigrants sound like aliens :P
